Role of Embedded Systems in IoT (Internet of Things)

Role of Embedded Systems in IoT

Let us look at the two terms first.

Embedded Systems - It is a system consisting of electrical and electronics hardware components and a software piece working together.

IoT - Internet of Things - A technology concept where several electronic devices can communicate over the internet on their own about different conditions they are intended to look after.

Generally, any IoT solution has 4 important areas

1.Sensors and Devices

2.Communication Technologies & Protocol

3.Cloud platform to manage IoT devices

4.Cloud-based software which allows Data  analytics & Application Frameworks.

A right combination of these 4 areas needs to be put together for solving any real-world problem using an IoT solution,

Out of these 4 areas, the first two areas consist of hardware devices and the subsequent two areas are more software-oriented.

Embedded systems play an important role while designing the sensors and IoT devices that sit in area 1 and communication gateways which sit in area 2 of the IoT infrastructure.

All the hardware devices whether it is sensors or gateways are made out of the embedded system technology.

So essentially this is the role of embedded systems in an IoT world.
